Methow Valley Young Adult Art Intensive

August 17-24, 2014

LauraGunnipbySteveMitchellLaura Gunnip and Matthew Armbrust introduce the Methow Valley Young Adult Art Intensive (AI), a weeklong residency to give advanced instruction and support to the serious young artist. This over night camp for 16-20 year olds is a collaborative effort between Door No. 3 ~ Print & Book Arts Studio and the Methow Valley Clay Art Center set on the TwispWorks campus this summer from August 17 – 24.

Daily instruction in art basics, collaborative group projects along with ample studio time and mentorship specializing in 2d, 3d or textile arts. AI starts with a “get to know you” dinner and evening, and ends with a culminating exhibit curated by the AI students complete with juried awards. “It’s going to be totally fun,” Gunnip enthuses, “I can’t wait to see what our students make!”

Sara Ashford, Culler Studio, and Donna Keyser, Keyser Studio and Methow Gallery, round out AI’s faculty for this year’s intensive.

Matt_Armbrust (1)“It is our hope that at the end of a week in the AI, an exhaustion and concurrent euphoria lead to a lasting inspiration that coincides with concrete professional skills,” states Armbrust. The Methow Valley Young Adult Art Intensive’s goal is to create a nurturing, challenging and dynamic environment that develops the space wherein students can take risks while being expected to perform at a higher level. This will be a lively conversation and immersion into art making for the young adult.
