Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus Concert Season

Opening Night Sun, Oct 16, 2016

BROWN_MATHEWOkanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus are thrilled to announce that Matt Brown joins the OVOC Orchestra as Director for the 2016-17 season!  Matt is currently in his 12th year of teaching music at Manson Secondary School, where he has taught band grades 6th through High School, Jazz Band, Choir, Guitar, and Piano.  He received his bachelors in Music and Music Education from the University of Washington in 2005.  While at UW, he was in the Husky Marching Band for 5 years, 3 of which he was drum major. Also in the University Wind Ensemble, he played bass clarinet and traveled to China and Japan.  He earned his Masters Degree in Music from the American Band College, Sam Houston State University 2010, with fellow OVOC colleague Chorus Director Jonathan McBride.  Through his studio, he has privately taught voice, clarinet, saxophone, and piano.  Matt has also been vocal coach for Chelan Valley Players and OVOC for their musicals, including last spring’s production of “The Addams Family”. Matt lives in Chelan with his wife Julie, and children Levi and Lucy.  As a family they enjoy road trips, day hikes and family game night.

Matt believes that classical music continues to be one of the most relevant and relatable music forms.  It has the capacity to relay extreme changes in emotion from measure to measure.  With OVOC he hopes to create an interactive listening experience where as a listener, you feel a deep connection to the music. With this year’s concert season (October 18th, December 4th, February 12th and April 2nd), Matt hopes to spark your interest or renew your passion for classical music. In his usual upbeat manner, Matt says “Thank you for being a part of the magic!”
