Rayma with Little Star Montessori Students.

RAYMA HAYES  has lived in the Methow Valley since the 70s. It was in 1982 that she founded the beloved Little Star Montessori School which continues to flourish. Born & raised in Galveston, Texas, RAYMA travelled extensively for years until one day in 1970 in Aspen, Colorado she was picked up while hitch hiking by a man named John Hayes. The conversation must have turned out well as four years later they were married in Spain. That same year, September of 1974, they returned to the U.S. and moved to the Methow Valley.

In order to pay for their Mazama property they were forced to find work in Texas. There RAYMA found work at a Montessori School and returned to school for a certificate in Montessori Education. This was lucky for the Methow Valley as they returned to the Valley in the fall of 1981 and opened Little Star Montessori School on March 22, 1982.

Rayma_posterQUICK FACTS ABOUT RAYMA HAYES

I WAS BORN IN: Galveston, Texas

FAVORITE THING TO DO ON THE WEEKEND: Hanging out at home with our animals (2 cats, 3 horses, 13 chickens,  and currently looking for a dog).  Also I like sharing dinner with friends, reading and gardening, walking, swimming, yoga & Pilates.

FAVORITE FOOD: I’ve been a vegetarian for 45 years so I like anything vegetarian without tomatoes to which I am allergic, and I also enjoy libations.

BIG CHALLENGE FOR THE NEXT YEAR: At 70 I hope I’ve passed my biggest life challenges but if not I will take on whatever comes my way!

MY MOST EXCITING PLACE: My favorite place to be is still Little Star Montessori School – with our nurturing, supportive staff and all our precious children.

One of the most exciting places I’ve been is Morocco.

MY FAMILY AND THOSE WHO SURROUND ME: Husband John Hayes, many animals at home and Little Star Montessori School (staff and precious children). Being Little Star’s Grandma brings me joy every day.
