INLAY WITH NACRE: THE NAMES OF FORGOTTEN WOMEN Poetry Reading

May 9, 2019

Cindy Williams Gutiérrez will read from her new poetry collection, Inlay with Nacre: The Names of Forgotten Women, which explores the global oppression of women—and testifies to their resilience—in over 20 countries around the world. Inlay with Nacre is herstory—the plight of Woman as bride, wife, mother, and daughter—and a call to action to restore the Feminine in the world.

With muscular and inventive stanzas—characterized by an insistent music and strikingly unpredictable narratives—Gutiérrez has effectively scotched the mythos of the conveniently silenced woman.      —PATRICIA SMITH, National Book Award Finalist for Poetry

Inlay with Nacre was awarded the 2018 Willow Books Editor’s Choice Poetry Selection and the 2016 Oregon Literary Fellowship for Writers of Color. The book is dedicated to the memory of my mother and, in honor of Mother’s Day, I will dedicate this reading to her.
