The collection showcases the some of the breadth and diversity of artists in the area, as well as, the wide range of contemporary art being produced. Hargrave’s encaustic paintings are inspired by botany, biology and abstract organic imagery. Her paintings incorporate a tendency to abstract organic forms, and in doing so, emphasize the direct correlation between subject matter and materials, as pure bee’s wax, resin and pigments are heated, layered and fused.

Sostrom’s atmospheric acrylic paintings are heavily inspired by the beauty and emptiness of nature hBrian-Sostrom,-Heavy-Morning-webere in the Pacific Northwest. The images are not intended to communicate a specific story, but, rather to create an intriguing visual poem. Brian combines traditional techniques with unusual materials, using open acrylic paint on a smooth transparent surface. Lighting and atmosphere are at the very heart of his work and to create the brightest glow he finds himself “darkening the light.”
